The Million Lives Club (MLC) announced SATO as an official member of its Vanguard cohort, which consists of innovators and social entrepreneurs from around the world who are making a significant impact in addressing global development challenges. Members of the Million Lives Club have scaled their solutions to serve 1 million customers or are rapidly on their way to achieving this goal.
SATO, through its line of innovative, durable, and affordable toilet solutions, is working meticulously to provide people living in rural and peri-urban areas, a better and more hygienic toilet experience. SATO is also the main vehicle for enabling LIXIL to meet its commitment to helping 100 million people obtain safe sanitation by 2025. In 2012, American Standard (one of the brands of LIXIL Corporation) received a grant from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation (BMGF) for the development of a low-cost toilet for pit latrines. This resulted in the launch of the original SATO pan. Since then, more than 3 million units of SATO products have been shipped, enabling to improve the lives of 15 million people in more than 25 countries, including India, Bangladesh, the Philippines, Uganda, Kenya, and Haiti.
The Million Lives Club recognizes the importance of a customer-centric focus in global development and believes that collectively highlighting social innovators that have reached transformative numbers of clients will act as a powerful platform to encourage the uptake and scaling of innovations for global good, everywhere.
As a member, we very much look forward to continue working toward a common cause of scaling solutions and making a positive difference around the world to millions.
